This job description (reproduced below) just landed in my box, a forward from a list I’m on. Sounds like a difficult job, considering Google today maybe changed everything by implementing a search results voting system.

Instead of hiring an SEO, maybe now you need to pay for promote/remove votes. First it was hitbots, then Digg mobs, Indian CAPTCHA solvers, now promote/remove clickers? I suppose soon we’ll find out how important these “promote” and “remove” buttons are.

Will businesses sit on their hands as competition clicks all the right promote/remove buttons? Do we trust Google when/if they inform us these buttons aren’t linked to Pagerank? I would like to know.

I recently wrote a classmate from high school that now works at Google, I was telling her how I think Matt Cutts has too much power/responsibility and how disturbing it is that people follow him around to hopefully improve their ranking. Who is Matt Cutts to determine my success on the Internet? Should I be penalized because I can’t get little favors from Matt Cutts too?

Maybe “promote/remove” aims to bury the old SEO/SEM regime. With promote/remove, Google can take the heat off Matt Cutts and blame the voters. The frontier of SEO/search could be the fine art of promote/remove.

“Search Engine Marketing Director”

Role and Responsibilities:
o Manage the company’s online search campaigns by establishing new campaigns, managing the ad copy and bids of the new and existing campaigns, analyze campaign revenue and expense, and preparing reports to communicate the campaign performance to senior management. This information will be used in determining how to allocate future marketing funds.
o Perform keyword research to identify new and/or additional marketing opportunities
o Manage the consistency of the search campaign messaging between networks.
o Stay abreast of new developments in online marketing and provide suggestions to apply the new opportunities to our business.
o Develop expertise in and maintain proficiency in latest techniques of Search Engine Marketing through online and offline educational resources.
o Assist with the negotiation and placing of media buys.
o Provide input into new tools and services to add to our sites.
o Manage the external relationships with vendors and service providers
o Provide analysis and feedback to senior management for decision making
o Prepare forecasts and budgets for marketing campaigns
o Other duties as deemed appropriate

Work experience requirements:
” At least 7 years of experience in marketing.
” At least 2 years of management experience.
” Experience managing an online search campaign is preferred.
” Excellent Excel skills required.
